The Final Rap Battle of 8 Mile

2020.02.13 — Thoughts Afloat

“Guess who’s back. Back again”

I haven’t stuck to the routine I wanted to with the regular #ThoughtsAfloat. But hey, here’s me getting back up on the horse.

What sparked today’s #ThoughtsAfloat?

  • Eminem’s latest album and his lyrical genius
  • A discussion with my friends (eventually leading to a tweet) about their top picks for the “most impactful” movie scenes

Apart from the verses and the lyrics being absolutely 💣, this scene is the embodiment of how embracing your roots (where you come from) can make you stronger.

Lessons learnt:

  • Wear your weaknesses. Everyone has them anyway. Knowing your weaknesses is already one step ahead
  • Once you honestly (and I mean really honestly) accept yourself in all your weaknesses, almost nothing from the outside can destroy your mental and emotional fortitude
  • This acceptance reduces your opponents’ options of penetrating your mental sacred space (hence, the deserved choke from Papa Doc)
  • When you’re in the zone, beat or no beat, you do your thing

Enough said. Just watch this already if you haven’t.
